Today there is much talk of wellbeing and happiness. Gross National Happiness, GNH, has been designed in an attempt to define an indicator and concept that measures quality of life or social progress in more holistic and psychological terms than only the economic indicator of gross domestic product (GDP).
The use of the descriptor ‘happiness’, however, poses problems. It seems to privilege feeling happy over other feelings such as sadness, anxiety, anger and yet a good life allows us to have a range of emotions and find ways to experience and express these: emotional intelligence. Founded on the premise that fostering and developing emotional intelligence is key to a good life, Sundial is committed to exploring how to develop this.
